Schools Development Programme

Since 2003 EHRA has been involved in a development programme with local schools,  The rationale in the beginning was purely just to help our neighboring primary school, A.Gariseb Primary in a village called Anixab on the Ugab River, about 15kms from EHRA's base camp.  The school was in a terrible state of disrepair and we knew that with our experience and contacts we would be able to make a big difference to the school by fostering a twinning scheme with a UK school, King Alfred's in Hampstead, London.

As the programme developed we realised that not only was the school benefiting but it also created an important message that the elephants of the area were bringing the development.

In 2010 EHRA will be expanding the international schools development programme through partnerships and links with new overseas schools and organisations.  The partnership can also form part of the Duke of Edingburgh Gold Award.

If you are a teacher and would like more information on the twinning partnership scheme, which includes a 2 week expedition/field trip to conduct renovation work at the local schools and also a weeks navigation training and trekking through the Ugab River, then please contact Rachel here for a full itinerary and information pack.
